Transparent LAN Service (TLS)

Overview

Gain a competitive edge with Ethernet Transparent LAN Service (TLS), our Switched Ethernet service. MassTel offers two types of TLS service; MEF certified E-Line point-to-point service we call Ethernet Relay Service (ERS) and E-LAN any-to-any service we call Ethernet Multipoint Service (EMS) for intraLATA access applications. TLS allows the seamless convergence of voice and data so your customers receive a single network solution controlled by you. You get scalable bandwidth, Class of Service (CoS) capabilities and a very large service footprint from a single provider all with Ethernet's "plug and play" flexibility.

Lower the Cost of Connecting Multiple Sites

Transparent LAN Service (TLS, aka Switched Ethernet Services) gives you the opportunity to offer your customers lower costs for data communications at native Ethernet speeds between sites within many MassTel metropolitan service areas. TLS is available in two service types: Ethernet Multipoint Service (EMS) (aka E-LAN) and Ethernet Relay Service (ERS) (aka E-Line) with multiple Class of Service options.

TLS is an all fiber-based, metropolitan area LAN interconnecting service.

TLS connects customer locations together at native LAN speeds and Ethernet interfaces of 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps and/or 10 Gbps (10 Gbps available for ERS-Premier only) Ethernet.

LANs are extended over dedicated fiber loops, to Central Office based Ethernet switches. These connections are called User to Network Interconnections (UNIs) and provide connectivity to any other UNI in that LATA through an Ethernet Virtual Connection (EVC) within MassTe's TLS cloud. Each EVC uses a port-based Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN), so each end customer only sees a "private" network or closed user group, and therefore cannot communicate with other customer groups (referred to as domains).
